Emily West: A free black woman who played a huge interesting role in the Texas revolution. Her act is legendary & put into a song called " Yellow Rose of Texas". Born in New Haven, CT in 1815 & passed in 1891. In 1835, she was a indentured servant to James Morgan in New York then was sent to Texas to work as a housekeeper for a year. On April of 1836 she & others were kidnapped by Mexican cavalry. She was forced to accompanied General Santa Anna during the war. Her role was crucial for Texas during the battle of San Jacinto. When Texas attacked Santa Anna was unprepared because he was in middle of raping her at that time, resulted in a Texas victory & gave way to Texas independence.
